Günter von Scheven (born April 17, 1908 in Krefeld , † March 21, 1942 in Karpowka ) was a German sculptor . He mainly created figurative sculptures.

Life

In 1927 Günter von Scheven graduated from high school at Moltkeplatz in Krefeld. He then studied philosophy in Heidelberg and Berlin. At the same time he went on to study art and decided to sculpt in 1928. At the Berlin Academy he attended courses with Diederichs and Fritz Klimsch . In 1932 Scheven became a private student of Georg Kolbes , after he became aware of him through his blue granite sculpture of a youth's torso. Around 1930 he belonged, together with Andreas Moritz and Hermann Lemperle, to a circle of idealistic young men whose center was Georg Kolbe. After he was drafted into the Second World War in 1940, he wrote field post letters to Kolbe, which the latter published in extracts.

In 1937 von Scheven received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome and traveled through Italy and Greece. In 1938 he worked temporarily in Düsseldorf, then again in Berlin.

As early as 1933 he took part in the exhibition Living German Art at the Paul Cassirer Gallery and in the 1936 art exhibition in Berlin, where he exhibited a discus thrower and a javelin thrower, and in the exhibition German Sculptors of the Present in 1940 in Hamburg. Between 1935 and 1941 he took part in exhibitions at the Karl Buchholz Gallery in Berlin. In 1947 the Krefeld Museumsverein organized a memorial exhibition.
