Karol Jonca

Karol Jonca (born September 13, 1930 in Slawentzitz ; † January 13, 2008 in Breslau ) was a Polish scholar and university professor whose research dealt with German-Polish history and the relations between Germans and Poles, especially in Upper Silesia in the 20th century . Another focus was his work on the Kreisau Circle .

Jonca was a professor at the Faculty of Administration and Law of the University of Wrocław , corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and member of the founding senate of the Viadrina and received an honorary doctorate from it on November 3, 2001 together with Henryk Olszewski . He also belonged to the group of initiators of the International Youth Meeting Center Kreisau .

From 1939 Jonca grew up in Koźle , where he also attended school and in 1950 he obtained his university entrance qualification. He then took up law studies at the University of Wrocław, which he graduated in 1954. In 1958 he received his doctorate and in 1964 his habilitation. From 1971 Jonca was a lecturer at the faculty, after 1981 he held a chair. From 1969 to 1986 he worked for the Studia ślaskie (Silesian studies / Schlesische Studien), first as deputy editor-in-chief and from 1976 as editor-in-chief. From 1974 to 1999 he was editor-in-chief of the Studia nad faszyzmem i zbrodniami hitlerowskimi (German: "Studies on Fascism and the Crimes of the Hitler Regime") at the University of Wrocław.
