Jagatsinghpur (also Jagatsinghapur or Jagatasiṃhapura ) is the district capital of the district of the same name in the Indian state of Odisha .

Jagatsinghpur is 35 km from the coast of the Bay of Bengal and 35 km southeast of the city of Cuttack . The main branches of the Mahanadi estuary run 8 km south and 12 km north of the city. The Machagaon Canal runs through the city.

Since March 13, 1972, the city has the status of a Notified Area Council . On August 13, 2001, she was then raised to a municipality . There is no industry in the city. The majority of the population is employed in agriculture.

Residents

In the 2011 census, the population was 33,631. The gender ratio was 951 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 85.32%.
