Baripada is a city in the east Indian state of Odisha .
Baripada has the status of a municipality and is divided into 28 wards . It is the administrative seat of the Mayurbhanj district . The city was the capital of the former princely state of Mayurbhanj .

Baripada is located in the far north of Odisha, 60 km from the coast of the Bay of Bengal , on the banks of the Burhabalanga . The national highway NH 5 , which runs along the east coast of India, runs through the city. The city of Baleswar is 50 km south .
