Ouyama
The company Ouyama based in Shenzhen ( China ) provides digital and analog cameras for years, often come under other brand names on the market. Not only the spelling of these brand names, but also the design of their company logos are often confusingly similar to the brand names and company logos of renowned camera manufacturers.
Brand names
Ouyama cameras have come onto the market under the “brand names” Ouyama, Canomatic, Charman, Pearl, Nippon, Kamachi, Olympia, Nokina and MAXIM.
Fakes
Specific counterfeits from Ouyama are also known. A model from the Ouyama product range was sold under the name of the Sony brand.
Case study Canomatic
Canomatic is the most common and well-known brand name for Ouyama camera models. The company logo is reminiscent of the similar spelling and using the typical Canon typeface is very like the company logo of Canon .
Products
Some of the cameras from Ouyama, which have come onto the market under the brand name Canomatic, suggest by their presentation that they are SLR cameras . There are even viewfinder cameras with so-called interchangeable lenses. In many cases, the camera bodies are filled with lead weights to make the user feel as though their insides are full of modern technology.
sale
In many cases, Canomatic cameras were sold “out of the trunk”. Buyers were approached on the street and encouraged to buy with supposedly cheap offers. "Canomatics" are also offered again and again on the Ebay internet auction house .
The advertising claims of the manufacturer Canomatic are problematic, as specified functions such as B. Zoom not available.
Response from Canon, consumer protection
After more than 20,000 counterfeit Canon-brand cameras were confiscated by customs and police in Europe, Canon took a position on the matter. Canon is concerned about buyers of counterfeits, as their quality is usually not comparable to Canon's and there is no guarantee. Canon sees the facts mentioned in the introduction as an offense of product counterfeiting and takes both criminal and civil law action against products under the name Canomatic.
The original Canomatic from Canon
Only two camera models were manufactured by Canon , which bear the designation "Canomatic": the Canomatic C30 in 1966 and the Canomatic M70 in 1970.
