Oveis Saheb Djawaher (also: Oveis Saheb ; also inscription: Oveis Sajeb Djawaher ) (born November 26, 1956 in Tehran ) is an Iranian sculptor who has lived in Europe since he was 13 years old . He lives and works in Düsseldorf.

life and work

In 1969 Saheb moved to Europe. From 1976 to 1979 he studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna before moving to Germany in 1979. From 1979 to 1983 he studied sculpture at the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf with the stone sculptor Rolf Jörres . In 1983 he was made a master student. Saheb has been working as a freelance sculptor since 1983. He took over the former workshop of the sculptor Will Hanebal in Meerbusch-Büderich and in the late 1980s created a sculpture field with his own works in the immediate vicinity.

On the occasion of the exhibition Sculpture D-88, Saheb built over Hunsrückstrasse in Düsseldorf with a roof made of car scrap. This installation was to be understood as an ironic commentary on the achievements of civilization. Inspired by his academic teacher Rolf Jörres, Saheb has long been primarily concerned with stone carving. He works sparingly with stone blocks of different sizes by drilling, driving in wedges and splitting, so that archaic sculptures are created. Before processing, Saheb often draws the outline of a person on the stone, so that the sculptures remain committed to human proportions. Nevertheless, the succinct blocks give the impression of monumentality. Individually, layered or set up as a group, they are reminiscent of magical symbols as we know them from early cultures. Lying scattered in the open air, the sculptures combine with nature to form a total work of art. A film about Saheb with the title Stone Signs as Signs of Life makes Saheb's position in the "field of tension between two worlds" clear.
