Rolf Jörres
Rolf Jörres (* 1933 in Essen ) is a German sculptor . He lives and works in Mannebach (Eifel) .
life and work
Rolf Jörres studied architecture in Graz and Vienna from 1954 , but decided to become a sculptor and worked as a stone sculptor from 1961 . In the 1960s he took part in various sculpture symposia, such as the symposium of European sculptors 1961–1963 in Berlin and the symposium of European sculptors in Sankt Margarethen in Burgenland in 1964. He was also at the sculpture symposium Vyšné Ružbachy in the Okres Stará Ľubovňa in the Slovakia, participated in the international sculpture symposium Springhornhof in Neuenkirchen in the Lüneburg Heath , in a symposium in 1967 in Soest and in an international working symposium for stone carving in 1969. From 1977 Jörres became a lecturer in sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .
At Jörres, stone blocks are arranged and the material and its processing give his sculptures a natural, original effect, as Jörres reduces his artistic intervention to the minimum. The stones are hewn, sometimes drilled, and the work processes remain visible. The stone blocks, which are left relatively raw, show no function and are often found on streets and on urban areas.
