Overview of the Vyšné Ružbachy Sculpture Park

The sculpture symposium Vyšné Ružbachy in Vyšné Ružbachy in Okres Stará Ľubovňa in Slovakia was initiated by the sculptors Rudolf Uher, Miloslav Chlupáč and Andrej Rudavsky.

In 1964 the first symposium took place in a travertine quarry near Vyšné Ružbachy, and the following year an official international symposium took place. Participants in 1964 included Herbert Baumann (Germany), Karl Prantl (Austria), Morice Lipsi (France) and Hiromi Akiyama (Japan).

Since then, this sculpture symposium has taken place several times and in 26 years 104 stone sculptures by sculptors from fourteen countries were created. The area around the sculpture park is a ski area in winter. The Vyšné Ružbachy quarry was declared a cultural monument on July 1, 1977 by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic.
