Owari (Han)
Owari (Japanese 尾張 藩 , Owari-han ) was a Han (fiefdom) in Japan in the Edo period , which existed from 1610 to 1871. It was based in Nagoya in the ancient Owari Province (now Aichi Prefecture ), which is why it was also called Nagoya-han ( 名古屋 藩 ). It emerged from the Han Kiyosu in 1610 and was always ruled by the Owari-Tokugawa line . The first daimyo was Tokugawa Yoshinao , the ninth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu .
The sons of the second daimyo, Tokugawa Mitsutomo , received their own fiefs: Matsudaira Yoshiyuki ( 松 平 義 行 ) was daimyo in Takai from 1681–1700 and from 1700 in Takasu (where his line ruled until 1870) and Matsudaira Yoshimasa ( 松 平 義昌 ) founded the line in 1683 in Yanagawa , which merged into the main line in 1730. Several times, daimyo of Owari came from these branch lines.
