OxiClean is a brand name for household cleaners by the US company Church & Dwight . The brand also includes laundry additives and stain removers. The brand was previously owned by Orange Glo International from 1997 until it was acquired by Church & Dwight in 2006.

history

The brand was introduced by Orange Glo International in 1997 and was marketed as a "miracle cure" through commercials with Billy Mays in the US and Canada. Church & Dwight acquired the OxiClean brand through the acquisition of Orange Glo International in 2006; At this point, the OxiClean brand expanded with the introduction of the OxiClean detergent ball in laundry detergent, followed by OxiClean liquid detergent in 2014. It continued to be promoted by Mays until his death in 2009. The product is now recommended by May's friend and co-worker, Anthony Sullivan . Mays and Sullivan starred on the Discovery Channel's Pitchmen show , which featured the product multiple times. The OxiClean advertising films are considered prototypes of the infomercials .

One of the active ingredients in OxiClean products is sodium percarbonate (2 Na 2 CO 3 · 3 H 2 O 2 ), an adduct of sodium carbonate (Na 2 CO 3 ) and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). This breaks down into hydrogen peroxide when it is dissolved in water.
