Oxycera rara is a fly fromthe weapon fly family (Stratiomyidae).
features
The flies reach a body length of six to eight millimeters. Their body is black and hairy whitish, in the males the mesonotum is hairy yellow-brown. The animals are marked in yellow. Two calluses between the wing root and the scutellum , the latter itself, triangular shaped bandages on the sides of the mesonotum, the legs except for the dark tips of the tarsi , the hips and the thigh rings, four oblique side bands on the thorax and two pairs of spots the sides of the abdomen as well as its tip are colored yellow. The buttons are small, the proboscis protrudes to the front and has wide labels. The antennae are dark brown, the eyes of the male and female are densely hairy. The label has the shape of a semicircle and has two thorns.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is widespread in central and parts of southern Europe. They are found widespread in Central Europe in summer and can be seen on flowers in the herbaceous and shrub layers.
