Life

Oyin Oladejo grew up in Lagos and came to Canada in 2001 at the age of 16. She abandoned her original plan to study law and worked among other things as a ticket seller for the Canadian Opera Company, where she discovered her interest in acting. She then completed the Theater Arts - Performance course at Humber College in Toronto , as well as the Soulpepper Academy in Toronto . In addition to regular theater engagements in Toronto, she played a supporting role in a short film, but otherwise had no film offers - according to her own statement in an interview, she was about to give up the acting profession. Finally, on the advice of her agent, she took part in a casting with a self-made video - without knowing which production was being cast for - and was shortly afterwards selected for the role of bridge officer Joann Owosekun in Star Trek: Discovery . Oladejo has been part of the series crew since the first season of the series.

In the following years she was seen in the role of Ophelia in Shakespeare's Hamlet or in the male role of Lopachin in Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard .
