Ozhukarai (actually Uzhavarkarai, Tamil : உழவர்கரை Uḻavarkarai [ ˈuɻəʋərkarɛi̯ ]) or Oulgaret ( French ) is a city in the Indian Union Territory of Puducherry (Pondicherry). It is located directly west of the capital of the same name, Puducherry , with which it has now grown together. So Ozhukarai belongs to the agglomeration Pondicherry, but is an independent municipality ( municipality ). This also includes two smaller exclaves , Kalapettai and Alankuppam, north of Puducherry.

Due to the population growth in the metropolitan area of Puducherry, the population of Ozhukarai is also increasing sharply. Between 2001 and 2011 it grew by 38 percent. With over 300,000 inhabitants (2011 census) Ozhukarai has now overtaken the core city of Puducherry.
