Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto Oy , short Junakalusto Oy or Junakalustoyhtiö (abbreviated JKOY ), literal translation of train material for the capital region , is a Finnish leasing company for rail vehicles . She is the owner of the Sm5 trains , which are used for local rail transport in the Helsinki region .

The company was founded in 2004 as a joint stock company based in Helsinki . The shares are owned by the cities of Helsinki (34%), Vantaa (17%), Espoo (12%), Kauniainen (2%) and the Finnish state railway VR (35%).

The trains are leased to the transport authority of the S-Bahn, the HSL transport association . This passes them on to a railway company for practical operation .

The division of the acquisition and ownership of the trains, the planning of the traffic system and the practical operation of the trains to their own organizations was justified by the fact that this creates more transparency in the cost allocation. The expected release of rail passenger transport in Finland for competition also played an important role. Since the trains are not owned by the operator, it would be easy for HSL to change operators if they were released.
