Přilba vz. 53

The Přilba vz. 53 (Přilba = helmet; vz. = Vzor, Czech for helmet pattern 53 ) was the standard helmet of the Czechoslovak Army from 1954. The helmet was exported to various countries and is still used today by the Slovak armed forces, among others.

History and background

After the end of the Second World War, various different helmet designs were available. There were many German and Soviet helmets in the army's inventory, as well as pre-war designs such as the Helma vz. 20 and Přilba vz. 32 . The vz. 53 was developed with the understanding that it is clearly recognizable as the Warsaw Pact helmet. In its appearance, the helmet is very similar to the Soviet SSh-40 helmet. The inner lining, on the other hand, is almost identical to the German helmet lining.
