The P14 youth theater of the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin-Mitte is a youth theater / club in Berlin. It was named after the former age limit for films in the GDR .

history

The youth theater was established in 1993 when the management of the Volksbühne (director Frank Castorf , dramaturge Matthias Lilienthal and set designer Bert Neumann ) asked young people from the Volksbühne area to do their own theater. The concept envisaged that the young players would bring a breath of fresh air to the Volksbühne. During the rehearsals, they should also be confronted with requirements that may not take into account their lay status - including "anarchic dilettantism" instead of social pedagogy with occasional failure. Members directed it themselves under the name “P14 single-handedly”. Ramona Zimmermann , Matthias Kubusch , Bigritte Cuvelier , Bruno Cathomas , Milan Peschel , Andrea Koschwitz worked with P14 . As part of P14, the group "Youth without God" was formed a short time later under the direction of Ramona Zimmermann and Matthias Kubusch. Milan Peschel and the dramaturge Andrea Koschwitz took over the management of the youth theater in 1999. Several solo productions followed until Sebastian Mauksch took over the overall management of the youth theater in 2001. Sebastian Mauksch was the artistic director of the P14 from 2001 to 2007. Since winter 2008 P14 has been inspired by Vanessa Unzalu Troya and is under her artistic direction.

concept

In contrast to comparable youth theaters, the youth theater P14 is characterized by its individual theatrical language, the classic theater-pedagogical side harmonizes with a modern, politically targeted language. The center of the concept is that the participating young people bring in their own ideas and implement them independently. The P14 youth theater is not only open to young actors, but also to young people who want to work behind the scenes in stage technology , sound or in the field of dramaturgy .
