Bruno Cathomas (born October 11, 1965 in Laax , Graubünden ) is a Swiss theater and film actor.

Life

After completing his apprenticeship as a locksmith , Cathomas studied at the Zurich Acting Academy . From 1992 he played at the Berliner Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in productions by Andreas Kriegenburg , Christoph Marthaler , Johann Kresnik , Frank Castorf , Leander Haußmann , Martin Kušej and Stefan Bachmann . After his success in Thomas Ostermeier's production of Mark Ravenhill's Shoppen & Ficken in the barracks of the Deutsches Theater , an engagement at the Theater Basel followed in 1999where he worked with Bachmann, Lars-Ole Walburg and Rafael Sanchez .

Since 2002 Cathomas has played primarily at the Berlin Schaubühne , to whose ensemble he has belonged since the 2004/2005 season. There he played in performances by Ostermeier, Sanchez, Luk Perceval , Sebastian Nübling and Falk Richter . In 2003, Cathomas directed Peanuts by Fausto Paravidino , in 2004 his five-part project Bibel Factory and in 2005 Oscar Wilde - Ein Rausch , all three at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin .

In addition to his theater roles, Cathomas played in numerous cinema and television productions. In 2005 he played in Julian Rosefeldt's 3-channel film installation "The Perfectionist" a man who laboriously prepares and rehearses jumping with a parachute in his apartment with the help of wind and fog machines, but never manages to make a real jump. He was nominated for the German Film Prize in 1999 for his leading role in Didi Danquart's Viehjud Levi .
