Wolfsfährte is a German television film from 2010 based on the novel of the same name by the Scottish author Craig Russell . The thriller is the first film adaptation of Russell's crime series about the Hamburg detective commissioner Jan Fabel, played by Peter Lohmeyer , and was staged by Urs Egger for ARD .

action

A mysterious series of murders preoccupies Commissioner Fabel and his team. The perpetrator leaves enigmatic verses next to the corpses and gives clues to the next victim or his next act. For the purpose of decoding, Fabel gets help from his literary friend Aki, who recognizes references to Grimm's fairy tales in the lyrical messages . As a result, the book author Gerhard Weiss, whose current novel is about the Brothers Grimm, is suspected .

According to witness statements, the killer is tattooed all over the body and wore a wolf's skin during the act. This also explains the black patches of skin under the fingernails of one of the victims and the wolf hair in his pool. Writer Gerhard Weiss, inspired by Fabel's interrogations, analyzes the case in his own way. He suspects that the victims serve as a guide for an impending crime and that the perpetrator gives the investigators the chance to prevent the last crime.

And indeed: for the finale, the perpetrator chooses motifs from Hansel and Gretel . He, master baker Biedermeyer, keeps Paula Ehlers, who has been missing for three years, trapped in his cellar and since then has been suggesting to her that he is Hansel and she is his sister Gretel. His hard-hearted stepmother, meanwhile completely paralyzed by a stroke and in need of great care, is the bad witch and must be burned in the oven. Fabel only finds the stepmother dead in Biedermeyer's smoking oven, and he couldn't prevent the last crime either.

Reviews

"A pretty crazy story by German crime thriller standards with a high proportion of black and fairy tales, gripping thanks to clever twists and turns and edgy staff."

- TV feature film

“The attraction of the plot naturally results from the perfidious play with well-known fairy tale motifs, the various wrong tracks and the Anglo-Saxon tradition of the serial killer. The film unfolds its fascination through Urs Egger's dark […] implementation […] and the leadership of the great ensemble, which is oriented towards American cinema. "
