Daniel Martin Eckhart (born December 9, 1962 in St. Gallen , Switzerland ) is a Swiss screenwriter . He is also the author of the novel The Champ .

After completing the Swiss military service, Eckhart joined the Pontifical Swiss Guard in the Vatican . He protected the life of Pope John Paul II for two years, from 1983 to 1985. Eckhart then worked for the United Nations : 1985 as a security officer for the General Assembly and from 1986 to 1990 as a field service officer in Israel , Lebanon , Iran and Iraq .

Eckhart began his screenwriting career while studying acting in New York at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater (1990-1992). After thirteen years abroad, he returned to Switzerland in 1995 and has been with Swiss Re as Community Manager since the late 1990s . He writes for cinema and television. He wrote episodes for two German television series, Die Cleveren and GSG9 - Die Elite-Einheit . He has written three films in the Tatort series ( A Murderous Fairy Tale , Beautiful Death, Great Love ) and adapted two novels by the Scottish author Craig Russell ( Wolf track , Blood eagle ).
