Oliver Rihs

Oliver Rihs (born December 13, 1971 in Männedorf ) is a Swiss film director , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Rihs completed an apprenticeship as a graphic designer in Zurich from 1988 to 1992 . He then worked as a graphic artist and illustrator and gained his first film experience with artistic video works for techno parties.

In 1996 he broke off his career as a commercial artist in favor of a job as a social worker for seniors. At the same time he made his first short films, of which Lilien won the prize for best short film at the Locarno International Film Festival .

From 1998 Rihs lived in Barcelona, ​​where he shot his first feature film, the road movie Blackberry . Mina Tander , Birol Ünel and Robert Stadlober played the leading roles .

Rihs has lived in Berlin since 2001 , where he shot his second feature film with the episode film Black Sheep without funding. The comedy was a declaration of love for the city and became a cult film. Rihs also remained active in Switzerland. His comedy Warning, Ready, WK! was the most successful Swiss movie in 2013.

In 2008 Rihs founded the production company Port-au-Prince Film & Kultur Produktion GmbH together with René Römert , which he has been running since 2010 together with Römert and the producer Jan Krüger . The company produces feature films and documentaries such as Jack ( Silver Lola ), The Dark Side of the Moon , Journey to Jah and The Ice Man .

In 2014 he founded the film distributor Port-au-Prince Pictures together with the distributor Leila Hamid .
