Jan Krüger (film producer)

Jan Krüger (* 1981 in Oldenburg ) is a German film producer.

Life

Krüger, born in Oldenburg, moved with his parents to Olsberg at the age of four and grew up in the Hochsauerland . He attended schools in Bigge , Meschede and Brilon . After graduating from high school and spending time in the USA and South America, he studied economics in Hamburg for two years . At the same time he did several internships in the field of film production. He then studied production until 2009 at the Konrad Wolf Academy for Film and Television in Babelsberg . Parallel to his studies, he has been working as a freelance producer since 2003. With his company K'Summer Productions , he made short films, music videos, image films and commercials.

In 2007 he worked for the Berlin company Dreamer Joint Venture of Oliver Stoltz as an associate producer for the film Leroy , which received the German Film Award for Best Children's and Youth Film in 2008 and which Krüger also submitted as a graduation film at the HFF. Also for Dreamer Joint Venture , he was a producer for 2009 Salami Aleikum responsible, who as part of the Berlinale in 2009 the price of the German Film Critics awarded for the best feature film debut. In the same team (Oliver Stoltz as producer, Krüger as producer and Ali Samadi Ahadi as director) the animated documentary The Green Wave about the “Green Revolution” in Iran was made the following year . In 2011, Krüger received the Grimme Prize for Iran Elections 2009 , the shortened arte television version of this film .

In 2010, Krüger joined Port au Prince Film & Kultur Produktion GmbH , founded in 2008 by René Römert and Oliver Rihs and based in Berlin-Kreuzberg , as a partner and managing director. As a producer he was responsible for the feature film Dating Lanzelot and the short film Hasenhimmel , both directed by Oliver Rihs. The documentary Journey to Jah was made in 2012, directed by Noël Dernesch and Moritz Springer , which received the DEFA Foundation award at the 2014 Max Ophüls Prize film festival . He then produced another documentary, Project A by Moritz Springer and Marcel Seehuber, shot in 2013 . The film about anarchists in Europe was partly funded by crowdfunding and will be premiered on July 2nd, 2015 at the Munich Film Festival.

His next feature film production was Jack by Edward Berger and Nele Mueller-Stöfen , which premiered in the competition at the Berlinale 2014 and was released in German cinemas on October 9, 2014. For this film, he and René Römert received the German Film Prize in silver, endowed with 425,000 euros, at the Lola Awards 2015 .

In 2014 he and Amir Hamz produced the feature film The Dark Side of the Moon based on the novel by Martin Suter . Filming, directed by Stephan Rick , was completed in December 2014; on January 14, 2016 the film is due to hit the cinemas.
