The PKP class SM03 is a simple shunting locomotive of the types Ls150 and 2Ls150.

Structure and technology

From 1959 to 1969 the Polish companies Fablok and Zastal produced a total of 273 Ls150 and 2Ls150 models, which differ in the different types of gearboxes. Locomotives of the type Ls150 have only one speed level (25.7 km / h), those of the type 2Ls150 have two (25.7 and 45.8 km / h).

The structure consists of a solid frame on which two stems and the driver's cab are mounted. The 110 kW diesel engine transfers the power to the two axles via a mechanical gearbox. The locomotive comes with a pneumatic brake of Knorr brakes and a parking brake.

The locomotives 01–229 and 270, 316, 539 and 645 were built by Fablok from 1959 to 1967 , the locomotives 230–269 from 1968 to 1969 by Zastal.

commitment

On the Polish railway PKP , the SM03 series was mostly used for simple shunting services at stations . The power was sufficient to move other locomotives or to move several passenger coaches . They were mostly too weak for use at freight stations. In industrial railways and industrial sidings locomotives of the SM03 series were used. The performance was quite sufficient to move a few freight wagons.

Due to its size and appearance, the SM03 series is also known as Kogucik (German: chicken) or Kaczka (duck).

Several copies are still in use today.
