The PLZ-05 (other designation: Type 05 ) is a Chinese self-propelled howitzer manufactured by the armaments company Norinco .
Development history
The People's Liberation Army had been in the late 1990s, plans to replace the now outdated propelled howitzer Type 83 , which eventually led to the development of the ZIP-05th In the 1990s, the modern PLZ-45 model was developed , albeit as a cost-effective alternative to the US M109A6 Paladin for the export market in the Arab world. Conceptually based on the PLZ-45, the first prototype of the PLZ-05 was created in 2003. Two years later, in 2005, the PLZ-05 was presented to the public during the Beijing International Aviation Expo and the introduction into the army took place in 2007/2008 . The PLZ-05 self-propelled howitzer has not yet been exported and in 2012 there were already 240 SPGs in service. The PLZ-05 was completely developed by the Chinese armaments company Norinco .
Armament
The armament consists of a 155 mm howitzer with 52 or 54 caliber lengths. The PLZ-05 has an enlarged tower that is outwardly similar to that of the Russian 2S19 . There are reports that indicate that the PLZ-05 is equipped with an automatic loading system that was developed from the loading system of the 2S19 or is a replica of it. The maximum rate of fire is eight to ten shots per minute. In the event of a longer fire fight, however, the rate of fire is minimized by the thermal load on the pipe. The maximum range of the weapon system is 30 km with standard projectiles and up to 50 km with extended range ERFB-BB-RA projectiles. Like other modern guns, the howitzer is able to fire using the so-called MRSI method ( Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact , in German for 'several shots, simultaneous impact'). This means that the gun fires multiple projectiles that hit the target at the same time. This effect is achieved through a different elevation of the pipe, which results in different flight times. There is also a 12.7mm anti -aircraft machine gun on the roof of the tower , which is operated by the commander. Four throwing cups are mounted on the turret front on each side of the main cannon. The elevation range of the weapon is −2.5 ° to + 65 °. During the march, the pipe is fixed in an automatic lashing fork.
Versions
- PLZ-52 : The armament consists of a 155 mm howitzer with caliber length L / 52, outwardly similar to the PLZ-45 , but with a different hull. With a total mass of 43 tons, the PLZ-52 has a more powerful drive unit, which consists of a water-cooled diesel engine with 1,000 hp (735 kW) at 2,300 rpm and a fully automatic transmission . This enables a higher cruising speed of up to 65 km / h, but the range is reduced to a maximum of 450 km. The PLZ-52 should have a maximum shooting range of 53 km with extended range bullets. The maximum rate of fire is eight rounds per minute and a burst rate of three rounds per fifteen seconds. The zip code 52 is offered for export.
