The RegioWiki Niederbayern , until 2016 RegioWiki for Niederbayern & Altötting , is a Regiowiki running under a free license , which was founded on November 8, 2008 by the Passauer Neue Presse , a daily newspaper of the Passau Publishing Group (VGP). In spring 2009 it merged with the Passau Wiki, which had existed since 2006 and was initiated by students at the University of Passau .

With 2,200 registered users, over 17,800 articles (plus 22,500 images, tables, etc.) and around 39 million page views in total, the RegioWiki for Niederbayern & Altötting is the third largest Regiowiki in Germany (as of April 1, 2015). The most important relevance criterion for new articles is the reference to the distribution region, i.e. to Lower Bavaria and (until 2016) the Altötting district . Articles on the Altötting district stayed online even after the name was changed. The wiki is supported by the Neue Presse Verlags-GmbH , while the RegioWiki Bayern eV - after the Karlsruhe Stadtwiki Society, the second oldest registered association on the subject of Stadtwiki in Germany - acts as a sponsoring association and serves as a forum for all users involved.

The RegioWiki Niederbayern creates i. d. Usually a monthly ranking of the 15 largest regional wikis in German-speaking countries.
