PP? was a German electro band.

history

The PP project? was founded in 1989 by keyboardist Stephen H. Frye and singer Mark D. Chicken in Bielefeld . The name PP? generated from the sentence "Why should it be permanently perfect?", accordingly the duo printed this question and occasionally the short derivation "Permanent (ly) Perfect?" on sound carriers. The highlighted representation of the capitals and the question mark remained the same and referred back to the official band name PP ?.

After the first demos in 1990 and 1991 and the first concert in 1991, the duo placed two pieces on the compilation Forms of Electronic Body Music II . Also in 1991, other cassettes such as Bring Me The Neighbor's Dog Before I Fuck Myself and Suicide Passions were recorded and distributed in small editions, some of which were given away to friends.

The debut EP Splendid Threat was released the following year on KM Musik. In 1993 the group began touring across Europe, opening up for bands like Oomph! and completed Project Pitchfork . PP? Participated in the 1993 compilation Scanning Vol. 1 . with a cover version of the Jon Secada piece Just Another Day .

In 1994 itum Allenro ( Ornella Muti read backwards) was the group’s first album. The title Swoon became a club hit in the black scene . In the piece Rostock (An Antifascist Song) , which deals with the riots in Rostock-Lichtenhagen , Stefan Schäfer from Der Prager Handgriff was a guest singer. The following year music videos were produced for the songs Rostock (An Antifascist Song) , Alpha HF , Ohnmacht , Somewhere Between Death and Birth and Silver Scorpio , which were released in 1995 on the VHS cassette Tod, Tanz & Tarantelbein together with several concert recordings. Also in 1995, PP? in Belgium with a wave: Erdball as opening act. A year later, PP denied? a short tour with Welle: Erdball and appeared as the opening act for Calva Y Nada in Werk 2 . In 1997 the EP Like a Tongue was released via sample & hold music productions. With Safe Sex , the EP contained another club hit from PP ?. In the following year, Frye left the group. Chicken continued the project with changing guest musicians without further official publications. After touring Brazil at the end of the year, partly recorded and broadcast by MTV Brazil , Chicken PP? on. After the active period, two concerts by PP? instead of. The concert from 2009 was released in 2010 as a live album including a DVD .

style

The music of PP? subordinates itself to the electro of the 1990s and is considered a crossover of dark wave , EBM and techno .
