from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PSY diplomas are three consecutive post-doctoral training degrees for doctors , which are awarded by the Austrian Medical Association.

In order to strengthen the competence of doctors in the psychosocial, psychosomatic and psychotherapeutic areas, guidelines for three post-doctoral special diploma courses have been developed by the Austrian Medical Association since 1989. They are aimed not only to psychiatrists but to doctors from all specialist areas such as general medicine , the internal medicine , the dermatology or gynecology . Doctors in the fields mentioned are often confronted with mental illnesses and illnesses in their practice. With the PSY diplomas, which are abbreviated as PSY1, PSY2 and PSY3, further and advanced training is available to convey the required areas of competence.

With the PSY3 diploma, doctors are authorized to perform psychotherapeutic medicine independently and on their own responsibility.

The three PSY diplomas build on each other, the duration of the training varies slightly depending on the federal state and the organizer:

  • PSY1: ÖÄK diploma for psychosocial medicine (approx. 1 year)
  • PSY2: ÖÄK diploma for psychosomatic medicine (approx. 2 years)
  • PSY3: ÖÄK diploma for psychotherapeutic medicine (approx. 4 years)

When completing the specialist training course, PSY diplomas 1 and 2 are deemed to have been completed if the special course “Psychotherapeutic medicine for psychiatrists” is attended.
