Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere

Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere (* 1932 in Bumanji , Kalangala District ) is a Ugandan politician. He is the leader of the Democratic Party (DP).

Ssemogerere studied at Makerere University education and continued his studies at Allegheny College in Meadville ( Pennsylvania ) and at the University in Syracuse on. Between 1957 and 1973 he was a lecturer at various colleges in Uganda.

In the presidential election of December 10, 1980, Ssemogerere Milton Obote of the Uganda People's Congress was defeated . He was then from 1981 to 1985 leader of the opposition.

After Obote's fall in 1985, he was Minister of the Interior until 1988 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1994 under Yoweri Museveni . From 1994 to 1995 he was Minister for Public Service. In the 1996 presidential election he achieved 22.3% of the vote and came in second behind Museveni.
