Pachypasa limosa ( Syn. Pachypasa lineosa ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of clucking (Lasiocampidae).

The moths have a wingspan of 35 to 40 millimeters for the males and 45 to 60 millimeters for the females. A whitish oblique band bordered by thin black, partially jagged lines extends over the light gray forewings. Above this band are some dark wedge marks in the direction of the apex . The hind wings are colored white-gray to yellow-gray. The red-brown antennae of the males show a whitish web and are clearly double-combed, those of the females are very finely comb-toothed. The thorax is white-gray and has a black center line and two shoulder stripes of the same color. The proboscis is stunted.
Caterpillar
Adult caterpillars are gray in color, thinly hairy and show two distinct red spots on the back behind the head.
Geographical distribution and occurrence
The species occurs in southwest Europe and northwest Africa and can still be found at altitudes of up to 1000 meters. It prefers to colonize dry, karst areas.
Way of life
The moths usually form two generations a year, which can be found in the months of June or July to August. North African specimens sometimes appear as early as February. Only one generation is formed in the south of France . At night the moths occasionally visit artificial light sources . The caterpillars feed on cypress - ( Cypressus ), juniper - ( Juniperus ) and tree species ( Thuja ).
