The Pacific Amphitheater is an amphitheater in Costa Mesa , California .
History and use
The theater is located on the grounds of the OC Fair & Event Center and opened in July 1983. Barry Manilow was the first artist to appear on the venue with a capacity of 20,000. In 1990, the British world star Eric Clapton played on his Journeyman World Tour in the sold out amphitheater. Because local residents near the theater complained about the volume level, the site closed in the early 1990s. Following an agreement with local residents and the Orange County Fair, the Pacific Amphitheater reopened in 2003. The visitor capacity was initially reduced to 10,000 places. Since 2015, the theater has held 8,000 spectators. It is also a venue for Orange Coast College.
