Timebreakers - Looking for the mysterious heather crystal is a children's adventure film by Niels Marquardt that was made in the Lüneburg Heath with mainly amateur actors, but also a few actors who have waived their fees . The film was released on September 1, 2016, and the film was released on DVD in April 2017.

action

The nature-loving nine-year-old Larissa lives in the Lüneburg Heath on her parents' Schnuckenhof. Her clique, the "Timies", consists of the intrepid Charly, the clever Enzo, the computer freak Lilli and the cheeky little Leni. During this summer vacation, Larissa's cousins from Berlin are coming to Lüneburg Heath for the first time and are supposed to spend part of their vacation there. Larissa loves Emma (12) and Mathilda (9) idolatrously, but Emma is really annoyed that she was not allowed to go to the Baltic Sea with her parents.

Everything changes suddenly on the first day. The two girls are supposed to go to school with Larissa for three more days before the holidays start. Emma and Mathilda have fiery red hair and are bullied when the teacher is introduced. When the whole thing continues during the break and the boys attack little Leni as well, the sporty Emma takes the only way out she sees: she climbs the high chimney of the school, so to speak as a test of courage so that the boys calm down. Once at the top, she sees a strange brick with strangely incised characters, touches it and passes out. Only the fire brigade can rescue them from their predicament.

From then on Emma noticed more and more that she had a special gift since her 12th birthday: by touching old objects she can sometimes look into their past. Of course, the two are immediately accepted by the Timies, because they are all interested in the subject of history and the many undiscovered old riddles in the Lüneburg Heath. Together with the powers of Emma and Mathilda, who also seem to have some special gift, the children set out to find the monastery treasure, but they are not alone and have been watched for a long time. Will they manage to find the monastery treasure and thus save their financially troubled private school? And besides, what does this strange, glowing crystal that keeps appearing in Emma's visions have to do with the whole thing?

production

The no-budget production was financed exclusively by the parents involved, the actors, Niels Marquardt himself and a few smaller sponsors. The film was shot from August 21, 2015 to September 6, 2015 in the Heidekreis , in the forests of the Eibia near Walsrode with its real ruins from the Second World War, as well as at various other locations.

reception

The film service rates the film as "a no-budget fantasy adventure that struggles with the limitations of an amateur production, but cleverly relies on local color, sympathetic characters and a story that entertains young viewers and makes a subtle desire for history". Another criticism rates the film with four out of five possible stars: “The idea of the timebreakers and the entire plot itself, with its combination of adventure, historical film and coming-of-age elements, testify to ingenuity and creativity.
