legend

There are some popular legends about the large stone grave :

“In ancient times there were three murderers in the forest. They attacked the travelers who came to Trier on the Roman road across the high forest. 'Money or Blood!' was her reputation. They had already committed many murders, stolen many treasures and kept them in their money boxes. One day Our Lady came by. She too was called with harsh words. Mother Mary admonished her to improve her life so that God would not even punish her. 'If there is a God, then we want to turn to stone,' they replied scornfully. Then the Heavenly Mother made a sign of the cross over the three and they froze to stone. Yes, even the money box was just a square block of stone.

Different versions of the legend are told in the neighboring villages. Some say that three murderers ambushed a girl here and were turned into a stone as a punishment. Others associate the so-called 'Roman camp' with the legend. Accordingly, the three murderers attacked this camp and were turned into three large and one small stone with their dog as a punishment. In another version it is reported that the Reinsfeld pastor had been called to see an injured wood chopper. Three murderers and a dog broke into him in the forest. The pastor made the sign of the cross and the murderers turned to stone. "
