Package plan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The package plan corresponds to a basic automobile plan.

It defines all of the key geometrical data, minimum dimensions, legal requirements and the basic features of the design , which must be taken into account by development and design.

You can imagine this plan as a longitudinal section in the middle of the vehicle (as if you were looking sideways at the car - with the car always moving to the left), in which the driver and the various components are then placed. In addition, a " cross-section " is often drawn up through the driver's seating position in order to determine the position of the steering wheel, pedals, door, center console and roof. The cross-section through the seating positions on the rear rows of seats is also often included in order to be able to determine and check the corresponding dimensions.

As a rule, "95 percent male (as the uppermost limit of height) and 5 percent female (as the lowest limit of height)" are used as default values. These two manikins cover around 90 percent of the population. With you, the required seating position, ergonomic data (bending of hands and feet), the required viewing angles (left, right, rearview mirror, windscreen, ...) and the various free spaces for the driver (headroom, leg freedom, arm when switching ,. ..) set.

These dimensions and legal requirements are partially prescribed by a " standard "; In some cases, there are internal specifications that certain values should be greater than those of the previous model or the competition vehicle. Various component positions are also determined (motor position, gear shift handle, golf bag, trunk, ...). The plan also includes the wheels and the three road conditions with a normal steel suspension (empty, construction position and full load). The package plan is always at the beginning of an automobile development and is created and supervised by a separate department within the development team (pre-development). Even the design has to adapt to the package plan.

During a vehicle development, this package plan is revised and updated again and again in order to check the changes to the design or the development and, if necessary, to correct them. If necessary, the default value in the package plan is adjusted if there was a design change, a change in concept (e.g. new bumper) or a change due to the technology (e.g. window lifter has no space between the outer door panel and the door panel) and so the default value is not could be met.

Some European automobile manufacturers (including VW , BMW , Daimler-Chrysler , PSA, FIAT ...) have joined forces and an exchange of the package plans; after the respective model appears in stores; agreed.
