Paghjella

Paghjella is the polyphonic male song of traditional Corsican folk music . The music probably developed from the Gregorian chant of church music .

construction

The middle voice ( a segonda ) carries the melody ; the lower voice ( u bassu ) forms the accompaniment , the third and highest voice ( a terza ) sings the coloratura . In doing so, given schemes are improvised. The songs sing about past times, love, the Corsican nature or the Virgin Mary . A kind of reverb effect is created by singing the lyrics slightly offset.
