supposed position of the Pagoda rock

The Pagoda Rock is a phantom island in the Southern Ocean .

Thomas Edward Laws Moore (1819-1872), a British Marine officer sighted on January 30, 1845 under 60 ° 43 '  S , 3 ° 45'  O coordinates: 60 ° 43 '0 "  S , 3 ° 45' 0 '  O a covered with snow and ice, allegedly up to 370 meters high rock and named him after his ship, the Bark Pagoda . Later, at the same point, depths of 5308 and 5467 meters were plumbed. A computationally corrected position ( 60 ° 11 '  S , 4 ° 43'  O ) was published in 1850, but in 1930 also turned out to be non-existent (5523 meters above sea depth). After searching in vain not only at the specified positions, but within a radius of 70 kilometers, it can be assumed that the alleged pagoda rock was a floating iceberg with moraine deposits.
