Pagodenburg (Rastatt)

The Pagodenburg in Rastatt

The Pagodenburg is a baroque garden palace in Rastatt .

The margravine of Baden-Baden, Franziska Sibylla Augusta , had the pavilion built by her court architect Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer in 1722 . The model was the Pagodenburg in the Nymphenburg Palace Park in Munich , which the margravine saw on the occasion of a visit to Prince Elector Max Emanuel . The Rastatt pavilion has a diameter of twelve meters and is largely based on the Munich model, but the roof was deviated from the original and a mansard roof was placed on the building instead of a flat roof .

Franziska Sibylla Augusta used the pavilion in the middle of a garden as a tea house . Today it serves as an exhibition space for local artists and as a café. Usually these exhibitions are organized by the Rastatter Kunstverein.
