Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer

Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer (* 1683 in Tissau , Bohemia ; † April 24, 1732 in Ettlingen ) became known as the court architect of Franziska Sibylla Augusta the Margravine of Baden, based in Rastatt .

After the death of Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm , the Italian court architect Domenico Egidio Rossi had become too expensive for Margravine Franziska Sibylla Augusta , so he was dismissed and replaced in 1707 by the experienced German-Bohemian master builder Rohrer. Rohrer was not very impressed by the Italian baroque style of his predecessor and remained true to his Bohemian style.

Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer and his wife Maria Franziska had sons Johann Michael in 1711 and Franz Anton in 1713. The Rastatt building trade in Rohrer goes back to these two sons.

The younger brother of Johann Michael Ludwig Rohrer Johann Peter Ernst Rohrer followed in his brother's footsteps and built the following buildings in Rastatt and the surrounding area:

  • 1738 college building
  • 1748 Reconstruction of the old chapel in Bietigheim
  • 1750 Rastatt town hall
  • 1756 St. Alexander town church in Rastatt

Some of these buildings are still based on the plans of his older brother.
