A paint chat is software that allows its users to chat and paint with one another , both in real time .

Web applications

Often these programs are called Web applications with Java - Flash - or HTML5 - frontend realized. These applications are particularly popular in Japanese Oekaki forums.

PaintChatApp

PaintchatApp is freeware and consists of a public Java server and a Java applet . It was developed in 2000 by a Japanese programmer under the pseudonym Shichan. The last version was published in 2003.

Citeboard

Ziteboard is a device-independent, web-based whiteboard with zoom function and the possibility of collaboration in real time, written in pure html5 and javascript. Users can draw and type private or public notes together on the zoomable user interface. The public visual chat service can be reached through a permanent URL.

Twiddla

Twiddla is a browser-based paint chat tool with conversation support and a focus on web conferences . The service started in April 2007.

iScribble

iScribble is an online community that offers paint chat channels.

RateMyDrawings

RateMyDrawings is also an online community with paint chat channels.

Queeky

Queeky is also an online community with paint chat channels in the so-called MultiDraw . Users can create their own MultiDraw rooms and invite other users to use them together. Drawings created with Queeky can be played back using a replay function. Queeky is available in German and English.

Programs without a central server

openCanvas 1.1b

The paint program openCanvas was particularly popular for non-public drawing sessions . The freeware version from 2000 offered network support. A client acted as a server , which allowed up to 3 other clients via incoming TCP / IP connections. Otherwise no additional web server was required. Since Portalgraphics abolished this function with version 2, many copies of oC11b72.exe (openCanvas 1.1b72) are still circulating on the Internet.

An improved server program, N-SoCS , has existed since 2006, introducing some additional functions and increasing the user limit from 4 to 24.

PictoChat

Nintendo 's PictoChat (part of the Nintendo DS operating system) offers paint chat functionality within a local network .

Drawpile

Drawpile is free open source software that enables collaborative digital painting . Either a client can act as a server (similar to openCanvas 1.1b before ) or several clients can be connected to a web server.
