The Miraflores Palace (Palacio de Miraflores) in Caracas is the official residence of the President of Venezuela . It is located in downtown Caracas a few meters from the Palacio Federal Legislativo .
history
In mid-1884, under the direction of the Italian architect Giussepe Orsi de Mombello, construction began during the tenure of President Joaquín Crespo (1884–1886), but was not completed until after his death in 1889. One of the peculiarities of the neoclassical architecture are the load-bearing walls reinforced with metal, which were built in for horizontal bracing and to protect against possible earthquakes. Miraflores was one of the first earthquake-proof structures in Venezuela.
The structure of the building consists of six parts, which are arranged in a ring around the central courtyard with arcades. The building complex is occupied by gardens, statues and a marble fountain. The shape of the windows ends in arches, the parapets, pilasters and decorative reliefs are in the style of a French neo-baroque palace, despite the Italian side, which represents the garden in the inner courtyard with surrounding trusses.
The interior work was carried out by the Catalan architect Juan Bautista Sales , the decoration of the palace was done by the Spanish painter Julián Oñate y Juárez (1840–1899).
