Surname

The palace is named after the Bellegarde family, who acquired the property in 1846. At that time Count August von Bellegarde (1795–1873), his wife Julie (1795–1865) and their daughter Pauline (1830–1912) lived in Vienna.

history

The two-story street wing of the Palais on what was then Jägerzeile was built around 1780. The builder is unknown. In 1846, a not very handsome, three-story courtyard wing was added by Phillip Brandl to a design by Amédée Demarteau (1809–1877). This created a large apartment building complex that extends from Jägerzeile, known as Praterstrasse since 1862, to Grosse Mohrengasse. The palace was badly damaged in the Second World War, not very carefully restored in the post-war period and later restored down to 1984 in great detail.

description

The ten window axes, three-storey street wing on Praterstrasse has a late baroque facade. The main floor with high French windows and balconies with wrought iron railings is the only decoration of the otherwise plain facade. The basement floor in the Grosse Mohrengasse was changed several times through the subsequent installation of business premises. A straight roofing of the windows and a projecting cornice are the only decorative elements here.
