Palais Buquoy

The Buquoy Palace (Czech: Buquoyský palác ) is located in the center of Prague on Velkopřevorské náměstí (Great Priority Square) ( Malá Strana district ) near the Vltava island of Kampa.

history

When Bartholomäus Scotti built a new palace for the then Grand Prior Gundakar Poppo von Dietrichstein on the Grand Priority Square on the Lesser Town of Prague on the old site of the Sovereign Order of Malta, today's Palais Buquoy opposite was also rebuilt. The small Palais Buquoy, built in 1598 by Melchior Gniesen, was redesigned in Baroque style in 1780; In the large Palais Buquoy, built in 1718, remodeled in 1738 in the baroque style , the interiors were impressively designed by Josef Schulz in 1896 .

In 1748 the building came into the possession of the descendants of Charles Bonaventure de Longueval , General of the Ligist Army, who led the imperial troops to victory in the Battle of the White Mountain together with the Bavarian Elector Maximilian I. The adjoining small palace was also part of it. Today both house the embassy of the Republic of France . The magnificently furnished rooms became known to a wide audience when they were used as a backdrop for a baroque ball in the film Amadeus .
