Palais Helfert

The Palais Helfert is located in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City , Parkring 18.

history

Baron Joseph Alexander Freiherr von Helfert had the corner palace built by Ludwig Tischler between 1871 and 1873 in the style of the New Vienna Renaissance. During the redesign into an office and residential building, the pillar portal and the balcony above were torn down, thereby significantly changing the character of the palace.

description

The grooved and partly rusticated facade has aedicule windows with semicircular Tuscan columns on the first floor. The windows on the floor above have alternating triangular and segmented gable roofs as well as balconies. The second and third floors are combined by giant Corinthian pilasters. The attic storey is visually separated by a cornice and the round arch dominates, with windows and niches alternating with decorative elements, each separated by Ionic pilasters. Only a few remains of the interior have been preserved as a result of the renovations and these are partially covered by suspended ceilings, such as the sumptuous ceiling in the marble hall. In the door panels of the former dining room, which date from 1874, mythological figures are depicted with food.
