The Palais Sigray St. Marsan is a Ringstrasse palace at Reisnerstrasse 49, at the corner of Jaurèsgasse 9 in Vienna's 3rd  district, Landstrasse , not far from the Belvedere . The ensemble houses the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran .

The palace from the Ringstrasse era , Habsburg historicism , turns its three-storey front side into Reisnerstrasse. It is windowed along seven axes, with a typical plinth-like ground floor and a generous bel étage , with relatively simple antique ornamentation. The house, with its two neighboring buildings out of town, is set back from the street via a front garden; the former front entrance is not accessible.

To Jaurèsgasse, next to the main building, there is a side wing that forms the entrance to the embassy. This building was rebuilt in recent years and now shows a facade adapted to historicizing .

To the inner courtyard there is another building, the old horse stable of the property.

Directly opposite is the Russian Embassy and next door is the Russian Orthodox Nicholas Cathedral , and not far on Jaurèsgasse is the British Embassy .

History and current use

The property was created in 1872 by the noble family Count Sigray of Saint-Marsan , Sardinian nobility. The architecture comes from Viktor Rumpelmayer , the original concept with a country castle-like high roof, Italian-French neo-renaissance style, was not implemented, and the appearance was changed again in 1880.

The building was later sold to the Empire of Persia and has been the Persian embassy in Vienna for many years, and Iranian since 1979. In addition to the embassy, ​​it also houses the consular department and the permanent representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna ( Vienna International Center ).
