Palazzo Bellavite Baffo is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere San Marco with a view of Campo San Maurizio next to the Church of San Maurizio . Behind the palace is the Rio di Santo Stefano .

history

At the beginning of the 16th century, Dionisio Bellavite had the palace built in place of the old campanile of the Church of San Maurizio. The last member of the Baffo family also lived there . A study center and offices are now housed in the once magnificent residential building.

description

The palace has five floors. On the ground floor, a rectangular portal in the middle leads into the interior on the facade of the church square. In addition, six rectangular, barred windows are arranged symmetrically. The arrangement of the rectangular windows is repeated on the mezzanine floor above. A large coat of arms is attached above the portal, between the two outer windows on each side a marble tablet, one of which refers to the poet Giorgio Baffo (1694–1768).

The two main floors are each characterized by a large Venetian window in the middle with a protruding stone balcony . These windows are flanked by a pair of individual arched windows . The mezzanine floor under the roof has a quadruple rectangular window in the middle, flanked by a pair of similar individual windows on each side. At the top, the facade closes off a serrated eaves .

The interiors are kept in the style of the 18th century, although the palace was painted with frescoes by Paolo Veronese during the 16th century . However, nothing of this work by the artist has survived today. The frescoes still visible today date from the 18th century and are attributed to Pietro Antonio Novelli .
