Palazzo Capello a Santa Maria Nova is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere at the confluence of the Rio Widmann with the Rio de la Panada , opposite the Palazzo Soranzo-van Axel and near the church of Santa Maria Nova .

history

The palace was built for the Capello family between the end of the 14th century and the first years of the 16th century . The facade was later modified to create Calle del Piovan .

description

The palace has three full floors and a mezzanine floor under the roof. The facade is plastered and painted pink. On the ground floor there is a central keel arched portal to the water, flanked by two pairs of rectangular single windows. In the middle of each of the two main floors above there is a quadruple keel arched window, the individual windows of which are separated from one another by Doric columns. Similar half-columns sit at the ends. Such half-columns also frame the two pairs of single keel arched windows that flank the quadruple windows. In front of the quadruple windows there are protruding balconies supported by consoles . On the mezzanine floor under the roof sits a more recent quadruple rectangular window, flanked by two pairs of just such individual windows. All rectangular windows have frames that, like the columns, half-columns, consoles and balconies, are made of Istrian limestone . The eaves , also made of this stone, is serrated.
