Palazzo Ducale (Genoa)
The Palazzo Ducale is an important historical building in the Italian city of Genoa . If it was the power center of the Doges during the city republic , today it is an important cultural center of the Ligurian capital. Located on the Piazza De Ferrari or Piazza Matteotti , the Palazzo represents the center of the city.
Before the palazzo was restored in 1992 on the occasion of the Columbus Memorial Day, it had been neglected for a long time. For a longer period of time it was also the seat of the judiciary until it moved to the Palace of Justice on Portoria .
Exhibitions, concerts, conferences etc. take place on the piano nobile of the Palazzo Ducale (in the halls of the Great and Small Councils , Maggiore / Minore Consiglio). Small shops and restaurants can be found in the inner courtyard and the arcades.
In 2001 the Palazzo Ducale was the seat of the G8 Congress chaired by the then Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi .
