The Palazzo Sclafani is a palace in Palermo . It is located south of the cathedral at the “Villa Bonanno” park near Piazza Vittoria .

The palace was commissioned by Matteo Sclafani in 1330 and, according to a no longer preserved plaque on the east facade, was completed in the same year, but this is doubtful. Sclafani wanted to humiliate his brother-in-law Manfredi Chiaramonte , who needed several decades to build his Palazzo Chiaramonte . From 1435 the palace served as a citizens' hospital, from 1852 as a barracks. Today the military headquarters is located there.

On the outside, only the south facade has been preserved in its original appearance, the other facades have been greatly changed. In the south facade there is also a magnificent portal, above which the coats of arms of the Sclafani family, Palermos, Sicily and the House of Aragon are depicted. The Gothic architectural style is mixed with Arabic and Norman style elements. Stone inlays and intersecting blind arcades above the two-part windows serve to decorate the facade .

The inner courtyard has an archway on the ground floor and a loggia on the upper floor . The Triumph of Death fresco was originally attached to one wall of the arcaded courtyard and is now on display in the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia in the Palazzo Abatellis .
