Palazzo Valle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Palazzo Valle is a noble palace from the late Baroque period in the Sicilian city of Catania .

history

The Palazzo Valle was designed by Giovanni Battista Vaccarini . The facade is characterized by the strongly emphasized portal . It is emphasized by strong consoles that are inclined on the sides and crowned by a balcony . The middle section of the balcony protrudes in a harmoniously balanced curve and continues on both sides in inclined straight lines that go a little beyond the consoles.

The three-part, wrought-iron balcony grille corresponding to this substructure would have been inconceivable in the lively play of its curve in the contemporary architecture of Rome . His rhythm of movement continues in the gable crown of the central section of the facade and in the small balconies along the facade. Wrought iron balcony grilles of this type were very popular in 18th century Sicilian secular architecture and can be found all over the island.

Francesco Fichera writes in his work Giovanni Battista Vaccarini : "The Palazzo Valle is the prototype of the Catanesian aristocratic palaces" .
