Robert Karlsson (born September 3, 1969 in St. Malm , Sweden ) is a professional golfer of the European Tour and the PGA Tour .

Career

The son of a greenkeeper became a professional golfer in 1989 and qualified for the European Tour the following year. Since then he has been able to assert himself there through consistent play, has won eleven tournaments so far, making him the most successful Swede. When he won the Celtic Manor Wales Open in 2006, Karlsson had 124 and 190 strokes new tour records for two (36 holes) resp. three rounds (54 holes). In the European Tour Order of Merit 2006 he reached 4th place and in 2008 he was the first Swede to win the money list ranking and the associated Harry Vardon Trophy . In November 2008 he and Henrik Stenson won the World Cup for Sweden.

He was a member of the continental European team in the Seve Trophy in 2000, 2002, 2007 and 2009. In the Ryder Cup he was in the European team in 2006 and 2008 .

Robert Karlsson is the tallest golfer on the European Tour at 1.96 meters . He is a typical frontrunner who was able to secure the majority of his tournament victories from the leading position.

He is married to his wife Ebba, has two children and, like many of his compatriots, lives in the tax haven of Monaco .
