The Palfriesbahn is a gondola lift between the Ragnatsch settlement in Mels ( 473  m above sea level ) and the Palfries alpine region ( 1721  m above sea level ) in the municipality of Wartau in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . World icon World icon

The railway was built in 1941 as the Z 402 military cable car in the Sargans fortified area and has not been used since 1998. It has been open to the public since the 2016 summer season.

The train runs every quarter of an hour with two gondolas, each with eight seats. Obvious hiking destinations from the mountain station are the Gonzen and Alvier . An almost level path continues from the mountain station to a number of excursion restaurants.
