Palliative medical complex treatment
The palliative medical complex treatment is a group of procedure codes introduced in 2005 that hospitals can use that bill according to the German DRG system.
The OPS -2017 is 8-982.x (x stands for a number 0-3 and roughly depicts the duration of treatment). From a certain duration of treatment (currently 7 days), the hospitals receive an additional fee in addition to the normal treatment flat rate. These fees are intended to compensate for the higher costs caused by patient-friendly palliative medicine , especially the higher personnel costs .
"Palliative medicine" is defined as treatment without a healing goal, to alleviate the symptoms of seriously ill patients with a limited life expectancy - it does not only concern the care of the dying.
The required service content of a PKB is listed in the procedure code. At least one specialist in palliative medicine and specially trained nursing staff are required. A standardized basic assessment, an individual weekly treatment plan, and at least six hours per week from at least two of the following treatments must be documented in writing: social work , psychotherapy , physiotherapy , art / music therapy , relaxation therapy , and discussions with patients / relatives.
The additional fees are between € 1,322 (treated for at least seven days) and € 3,354 (at least 21 days).
8-98e.x (specialized in-patient PKB) and 8-98h (specialized PKB through a palliative service) are intended for particularly specialized palliative medical hospital departments and place correspondingly higher demands on personnel qualifications and equipment. At the moment (2017) the additional fees provided for this have not yet been determined in terms of amount; they are negotiated on a hospital-by-hospital basis.
